Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do i get involved with the team?
A: First of all come to the meetings held in War Memorial Hall room 219 every Tuesday at 8:15 P.M. Second join the Listserv, this is our primary mode of communication. You should also join the Forum. Third come to Bakers Dozen, a run held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 A.M at the chapel(those giant pillar things one end of the drill field)
Q: How much are dues and what do I get for paying them?
A: Dues are $50 a semester or $90 for the year, which is WAY cheaper than most other sports clubs. This will get you a spiffy VT-Triathlon T-shirt, access to our sponsors, swim practices, and travel and lodging for races. If you're lucky we might be able to start helping out with race entry fees.
Q: Where do I pay these dues?
A: To pay your dues, just go into McComas and in the middle room with the double doors, there is a desk. Tell them you want to pay Triathlon Club dues, and tell them you want to pay either $50 or $90. Then you give them cash or check (no credit cards) and they will give you a receipt. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT, write your name on the back of it, and give it to Cameron Hanlin (the treasurer) at the next meeting or any other time you see him.
Q: Last time I tried to swim I only made it 10 yards, can I still do triathlons?
A: Of course, we have very skilled coaches who will teach you how to swim in no time. All you need to do is show up to swim practice every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 P.M. at McComas Hall.
Q: I don't have a bike, what should I do?
A: Be patient, look on e-bay, look on craigslist, or borrow a bike from someone for a temporary fix. If you want to buy a bike, we will help you out. But PLEASE be specific when you ask for help. Tell us how tall you are and what your budget is. Unfortunately we can't help you find a top of the line race bike for $100. Bikes are expensive, so start saving or have Max find you one of his amazing deals
Q: I noticed you don't have an regular bike workouts.. Do you ride bikes?
A: Yes! But, we don't have any regularly scheduled bike workouts because riding takes more time than the other sports, and there are many people with different fitness levels. Usually when someone is doing a ride, the time, pace, and distance will be sent out to the listserv. We try to do SAYG (Slow as your grandmother) rides once or twice a week, which will be sent out over the listserv. For more advanced riders, check out the cycling team's website/listserv. They have a more regular riding schedule than we do, as thats all they do. And they're afraid of girls.
Q: Where should I ride around Blacksburg?
A: http://www.cycling.org.vt.edu/?page_id=11
Q: I'm slow/out-of-shape/other-lame-excuse
A: Thats ok! It only takes a bit of practice to get in to the rythm of things! The best thing you can do is just keep coming out to our recovery runs/rides and you will get better! Come to swim practice and one of our fine coachs will help you!
Q: Do you do any open water swimming?
A: Yes! Every now and then we will go down to the New River and swim at McCoy! Just keep your eye out for e-mails or forum posts!
Q: It seems that every member of this team has a nifty profile on the roster page, how do I get one of those?
A: To get a profile send an email to Jan Grajkowski(JanG115@vt.edu) saying that you want a profile and he will send you all the information you need.
Q: I want to train hard! Can I do that?
A: Absolutely! The hardcore workouts will start soon, and again, that will be posted on the forum/listserv
Q: This club is the most badass club ever, but which of the members is the most Badass?
A: The most Badass member is Jan "The Super Amazing Webmaster" Grajkowski. Other notable Badasses are Christopher "Ultra Runner" Clarke, Fred "Iron Man" Cook, Brian "3-day Solo Adventure Racer" Schoenberger, and Justin "I'm awesome at everything" Morrison
